Mediterranean Design Style
Welcome to this week’s Moodboard Monday! We're heading to the coast (and a warmer climate this time of year!) with a style that’s full of warmth, texture, and timeless charm — say hello to Mediterranean design.
This look is inspired by the laid-back beauty of life in places like Spain, Italy, and Greece. It’s easygoing, sun-soaked, and effortlessly elegant — with natural materials, earthy tones, and a strong connection to the outdoors.
What is Mediterranean design style?
Mediterranean interiors are all about bringing the outdoors in — think open, airy spaces that let the light pour in and materials that have been sourced locally.
There’s a strong love for texture, natural imperfection and character in this style. You’ll see it in everything from plastered walls and handmade tiles to soft linen, natural stone, and beautifully aged timber. Imperfections aren’t hidden — they’re celebrated!
And while this style has deep traditional roots, it words really well with other design styles too. You’ll often see modern twists mixed in — like sleek lines and minimal shapes layered with rustic textures — a combo sometimes lovingly referred to as Moditerranean. (Remember Courtney on The Block 2023? Her house was a great example of the Moditerranean look.)

Here are a few simple ways to create a Mediterranean feel in your own spaces:
• Opt for a soft, earthy colour palette — warm whites, terracotta, olive green, and ocean-inspired blues
• Bring in natural materials like timber, stone, rattan, and raw ceramics
• Use textured wall finishes — lime wash, plaster, or stone cladding add beautiful depth
• Choose furniture with rounded edges or a handmade feel (especially arches)
• Layer in breezy fabrics like linen and cotton for a relaxed, effortless vibe
• Add artisanal details — think mosaic tiles, woven lighting, or iron hardware

Start slowly - remember, a successful space is the sum of its parts, so build your style slowly and with consideration. After all, Rome wasn’t built in a day (hahahaha).
